Hayes Happenings!

The school news is a completely student-led operation. They work hard creating and putting together content each week! They analyze and critique each episode as a class on Mondays and aim to improve each week. Thank you for supporting and encouraging our students. Here is a link for this week's episode.

Second Notice - Library books are due!

Library books were due back May 19th. If your child has still not returned their library book, please have them do so on May 27th to avoid being charged for a lost book. Thank you!

Medication Pick-up

As the school year comes to a close, we kindly ask that all student medications be picked up, as we do not store medications over the summer. Medications can be collected during school hours, between 7:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

The deadline for medication pickup is 12:00 p.m. on June 6.
Any medications remaining after this time will be properly disposed of.

If your child is enrolled in Summer Learning, please notify Ms. Bentley so arrangements can be made to transfer their medication to Holbrook. Her email is bentleyl@glcomets.net

Lost and Found

Hayes Lost and Found is over flowing once again. The last day to retrieve your students belongings is Wednesday, May 28th, 2025. All items left over will be donated to Kens Coat Closet.

Summer Camps!

Calling all curious kids! If you're still looking for an exciting, high-energy summer experience, check out Camp Invention®!

Current 5th Graders:  https://www.invent.org/programs/camp-invention

Designed for students entering grades K-6, this program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to introduce your child to STEM concepts through engaging, hands-on challenges. As they move through four all-new experiences, campers collaborate with friends, grow their problem-solving skills and bring their creative ideas to life. As educators, we see how impactful and beneficial Camp Invention is for your kids – but hearing it from other parents is always better!

Grand Ledge is offering the program this summer from June 21st to June 27th at Delta Center Elementary. Still unsure if your child is ready for a summer of STEM exploration? Take this quick quiz to see if Camp Invention is the right fit for your kiddo!

Reach out to Kim Wheat at wheatk@glcomets.net to learn more. We hope to see you at camp!

Current 6th - 9th Graders: https://www.invent.org/programs/leaders-in-training

Calling all students entering 7th - 10th Grade!

The Leaders-in-Training (LIT) position is a summer opportunity for students entering grades seven through nine. LITs build leadership skills in a dynamic, invention-based setting while mentoring children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Through the program, LITs gain and practice leadership and teamwork skills, act as role models for younger participants, and learn to set and meet personal and team goals.

LITs work with a Camp Invention® Instructor to become a subject-matter expert in their module(s). LITs are also paired with a Leadership Intern mentor who helps the LIT develop leadership skills, which are used to empower Camp Invention participants as they become critical thinkers and creative problem solvers.

While at Camp Invention, LITs set goals, reflect on their experiences, adapt leadership techniques, give and receive positive, constructive feedback, and evaluate their personal performance. LITs also help set a tone of excitement and team spirit and facilitate activities as needed. They engage Camp Invention participants in the overall experience, support them in problem solving, and assist in providing a safe environment. Not only is Camp Invention an opportunity for LITs to make a lifelong impression on younger children, it can also guide LITs in making future career decisions!

Volunteering

Volunteer Registration Form

If you plan to volunteer or need to be in the building for an extended period (including field trips or field days), you must complete a volunteer application. This is a required step for all volunteers.

Please note: the background check takes a few days to process, so submit your application in advance based on your volunteer plans.

If your student will be moving to a different school next year, be sure to select both their current school and the school they’ll be attending.
For example: If your child is currently in 4th grade at Wacousta and will attend Hayes next year, select Wacousta and Hayes on the application. This ensures you’ll be cleared to volunteer at both locations when needed. Applications are valid for one calendar year.

Energy Drinks at Hayes Intermediate – A Growing Concern

We’ve recently seen an increase in students bringing or accessing energy drinks during the school day, often through their peers. Unfortunately, this has led to some students experiencing negative side effects such as shaking, rapid heart rate, and emotional distress. We kindly ask parents to speak with their children about the risks associated with energy drinks and the importance of not sharing them with others—especially without parental knowledge or consent. Your support in helping us maintain a safe and healthy school environment is greatly appreciated.

GLPS Health Center

What are they digging?

Now that the ground has dried up enough, construction (funded by the bond) has resumed on the driveways that will run along the south side of Hayes Intermediate! This construction will help alleviate morning and afternoon traffic congestion on Nixon Road and enhance safety. Over the summer, all parking areas will be redone to further enhance safety. This will go along with secure entrance construction, HVAC upgrades, and limited classroom construction. The upgrades will be amazing to see this August!

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The Hayes/Beagle PTO is making things happen for our students, and we’d love for you to be part of it! There’s no cost to join—just an opportunity to connect, stay informed, and support the programs and events that make our schools great.

Want a say in how fundraising dollars support students? Looking for a fun way to give back? We need volunteers for dances, field trips, teacher appreciation, and more—whether you have an hour or a whole afternoon, every bit helps!

Join us and see how you can make a difference!
