Welcome to Hayes Intermediate School!

We are so happy to have your student as a part of the Hayes family! While regular newsletters will eventually be published on Fridays, we are providing more details earlier as the school year approaches.

New School Year Information

Main Office Hours - Office hours are 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. until the first day of school.

Schedules Live in PowerSchool Schedules will be visible to families in PowerSchool around noon on August 18th. Homerooms are set at this point and most enrichment classes are also set except for extenuating circumstances. One exception to this, however, is Exploratory Choir for 6th Grade. If your 6th Grader wants to join Choir during Enrichment time for the entire school year, we can add them to that class.

Hayes Preview Day will take place August 19, 2025 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm & 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. This optional event allows students to pick up their schedules and tour the school. This is an extra opportunity for students new to Hayes to familiarize themselves with the school. Please note: Teachers will most likely not be present for Preview Day.

School Picture Day is during our preview day on August 19th from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm  &  4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. If you cannot make it to preview day we will have picture retakes during the school day on September 23, 2025.

Open House will be Thursday August 21st from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for your child to see their schedules and familiarize themselves with our school and staff prior to the first day of school.

School begins on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. School start time is normal but students will be dismissed 60 minutes early this day.

School Hours are as follows: Full day 7:40 am - 2:25 pm. Half day 7:40 am - 10:45 am. We ask that students arrive at school after 7:20 am as we do not have supervision until that time. The doors will remain locked until 7:20 am.

For more information, school supply lists,  and to see the district calendar, please log onto our website at www.glcomets.net.

Free Meals at Hayes

GLPS will offer free meals to students at least through September 30, 2025, as part of the Michigan School Meals program, which was funded through the last state budget.  GLPS will have a better idea about the future of the Michigan School Meals program and whether free meals will be provided to students once the state government agrees on a new budget (for the state fiscal year 2026).  GLPS will communicate more about school meals as we learn more.

In the meantime, you can DO YOUR PART, CHECK THE CHART – your family might qualify for education and meal benefits.  The Education & Meals Benefit Application helps our schools get state and federal funding for education programs.  This application must be completed annually in order to qualify for the education and meal benefits that help both your family and the school district.

Hayes Carline Update

Hayes now has a brand new carline configuration to make the drop off/pickup procedures as safe as possible.

South Driveway

For families coming from the south - Saginaw Highway - enter campus from the new South Driveway that loops around the practice field. The carline will stage here and begin flowing at 7:20 AM when the school doors open. Take turns and allow cars to merge. Students can be dropped off on the south side of the school or on the west side of the school. Follow directions from staff and pull all the way forward.

North Driveway

For families coming from the north - Willow Highway - enter campus from Penny Lane, by the Operations sign. Follow the signs behind the school where you will turn onto the South Driveway. The carline will stage here and begin flowing at 7:20 AM when the school doors open. Students can be dropped off on the south side of the school or on the west side of the school. Follow directions from staff and pull all the way forward.

A map will be included in an upcoming newsletter to illustrate the changes. Thank you for your patience as we will continuously monitor traffic flow and make changes to adjust for the first few weeks of school.

Picture Day Information

Picture Day is scheduled for August 19
Photographers will be available from 12:00–3:00 PM and again from 4:00–7:00 PM. Geskus Photography will take your students photo, give you an order form or a QR code to scan and you can preview your students photo before you order pictures/yearbooks. The photo packages will be mailed directly to your house after you order. You do not need to bring payment at this time. Photos will be available for viewing and ordering within 7 business days after picture day.

Viewing and ordering information will be given to you on picture day.

We encourage all students to have their photo taken—even if you do not plan to purchase a package—so they can be included in the yearbook.

If you cannot make it to picture day on August 19th we will have picture retakes during the school day on September 23, 2025.

Volunteering

Volunteer Registration Form

If you plan to volunteer or need to be in the building for an extended period (including field trips or field days), you must complete a volunteer application. This is a required step for all volunteers.

Please note: the background check takes a few days to process, so submit your application in advance based on your volunteer plans.

If your student will be moving to a different school next year, be sure to select both their current school and the school they’ll be attending.
For example: If your child is currently in 4th grade at Wacousta and will attend Hayes next year, select Wacousta and Hayes on the application. This ensures you’ll be cleared to volunteer at both locations when needed. Applications are valid for one calendar year.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The Hayes/Beagle PTO is making things happen for our students, and we’d love for you to be part of it! There’s no cost to join—just an opportunity to connect, stay informed, and support the programs and events that make our schools great.

Want a say in how fundraising dollars support students? Looking for a fun way to give back? We need volunteers for dances, field trips, teacher appreciation, and more—whether you have an hour or a whole afternoon, every bit helps!

Join us and see how you can make a difference!

The first meeting on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025 at 6:30 pm in the Beagle Media Center.
